Workshop: Finding – and Keeping – Digital Donors

Many of the overall strategies are the same for ‘real world’ donors, however the tactics used are a little different. Come join Kirsten Bullock and Steven Shattuck as we explore these topics in further detail during this half-day workshop.

PART ONE: Awareness and Online List Building Strategies

PART TWO: The Art and Science of Retaining Digital Donors

Retention is your most important fundraising strategy, and your online donors are seriously at risk. Among all your donors, they are the least likely to renew their gifts – unless you take specific, creative steps to engage and thank them.

This session will help you discover how to maximize the retention rates of your digital donors. We will examine the attributes of online donors, and outline the retention strategies that work best for this slice of your donor database.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand what makes online donors tick (their habits, patterns, likes and dislikes)
  • Learn how to formulate a retention strategy for online donors
  • Understand best practices in digital communications, including email gift acknowledgement and social media content

Steven Shattuck:

Steven-ShattuckSteven Shattuck is VP of Marketing at Bloomerang, which helps nonprofit organizations to reach, engage and retain the advocates they depend on to achieve their vision for a better world.

Steven spent the first five years of his career at an integrated communications agency, producing fundraising videos and other digital content for organizations like Butler University, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, the Domestic Violence Network, the Adoption Support Center, the American Heart Association and CICOA.

He honed his digital marketing skills at two Indianapolis tech firms before returning to the nonprofit sector as Bloomerang’s marketing lead. Steven curates our blog, administers our weekly educational webinar series and hosts Bloomerang TV, a weekly video podcast that interviews fundraisers and consultants in the nonprofit sector.

As a HubSpot Certified inbound marketer, Steven is a contributor to NTEN, Nonprofit Hub, Ragan, Social Media Today, Search Engine Journal, The Build Network, Technorati, Content Marketing Institute, Conductor and Business2Community.

He serves in a marketing/communications role on several nonprofit committees, is a frequent speaker at nonprofit conferences, and is a highly sought-after webinar presenter. He is routinely interviewed by media outlets for his expertise in digital marketing.

Recipient of the David Letterman Scholarship, Steven graduated with honors from Ball State University in 2006 with a degree in Telecommunications and Creative Writing. He resides in Indianapolis with his wife and three-year-old son.

Kirsten Bullock:

Kirsten BullockKirsten Bullock, CFRE, MBA is an author, trainer and coach who works with entrepreneurial leaders of nonprofits and ministries to help them increase their awareness, involve more people in their organizations and ultimately raise more money. She earned her designation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive in 2002. A consultant since 2008, she has worked with health care organizations, social service providers, national and local ministries, and international membership associations.

Kirsten is a past president Association for Fundraising Professionals Greater Louisville Chapter and was selected as the recipient of the chapter’s 2013 Frank W. Penick Founder’s Award for Excellence in Fundraising Practice. She is an AFP Master Trainer, is the author of Simple Steps to Fundraising Success and a contributing author to The Essential Fundraising Handbook for Small Nonprofits (currently ranked #4 in fundraising books on Amazon).

Kirsten is a licensed fund raising consultant in Kentucky. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and a Master’s of Business Administration. When not working to equip and empower people in the nonprofit sector, Kirsten sculpts, is attempting to learn to speak Danish and enjoys living in historic New Albany, Indiana.
